5 UNIQUE & COVID-SAFE FAMILY ACTIVITIES

One of the few perks of our current pandemic is that families have been able to spend more time together. Of course, as the months of social distancing drag on, we are all experiencing a bit of cabin fever. We have a solution. We have an assortment of fun family activities that will get you out of the house and will build memories to last a lifetime.

We know families are struggling right now managing online school, work, social distancing and a world that seems in many ways to be more stressful and divided than ever before. Heading outside into the fresh air can help clear our minds of worry, and many families are taking more walks, going on hikes and spending more time at the beach.

While this time in nature works its magic on our souls, we still crave those special experiences that we used to enjoy. A day at an amusement park, perhaps, or maybe heading to a sporting event or a concert. While these types of activities have been put on pause, at La Vida Laguna, we curate rich, meaningful experiences in beautiful Laguna Beach that will strengthen the bond between family members and allow you to let loose and have some fun and stay safe.

SURF LESSONS

If you’ve lived in California your entire life and have never caught some killer waves, maybe it’s time. Bring the kids and let’s hit the beach. During your two-hour lesson, our experienced surf instructors will provide you with all the guidance you need to learn how to paddle out, pop up and navigate the waves. No experience is necessary, you just need to be able to swim, have a healthy love for the ocean and bring your sense of adventure.

If you have some surfing experience, that’s great, but we teach beginners all the time and have a high rate of success having students stand up on their first time out. This often instills a lifetime passion for surfing and enjoying the wonders of the ocean. If you are looking for fun family activities to suit kids, teens and adults, surf lessons can be a perfect fit.

PADDLEBOARD TOURS

If you have teens or children 12 or older, our paddleboard tours can be fantastic family activities. We provide you with a quick lesson and in no time at all, you’ll be up and paddling through the sparkling emerald waters of Laguna. We launch and land off Laguna’s calmest, most-wave protected cove, so if you aren’t too sure about surfing, but want to try an ocean activity, stand up paddleboarding can be a great option.

Paddleboarding is a fantastic source of exercise for people of just about any age. In fact, bring along the grandparents, especially if it’s been a while since you’ve been able to get together safely. With paddleboarding, you can bond, and yet still be socially distanced. During our tour, we will explore the North Laguna coastline, including hidden coves and a visit to Seal Rock, a sea lion sanctuary.

OCEAN KAYAK ADVENTURES

Kayaking has been our lifeblood, so to speak since our earliest days. We are Laguna Beach’s original kayak tour company and for nearly 20 years, we’ve been leading tours of one of the most scenic coastlines in the world and it’s still one of our favorite excursions. If you want to kayak in Orange County, Laguna Beach is absolutely the best spot to select.

During your guided tour, you and your family will cruise past hidden beaches, massive kelp forests, healthy fisheries and enjoy a view of Laguna’s amazing coastline that few people ever see.

You and your family are likely to encounter an assortment of marine mammals along the way, including sea lions, dolphins and perhaps a whale or two. These tours are suitable for anyone who can swim and is three years or older. No experience is necessary, and children ages 3 to 7 ride free between two adults. If you’ve been searching for kid-friendly activities as well as teen-suitable activities, kayaking might be a great option to consider.

ELECTRIC BIKE TOURS & RENTALS

Ok, not everyone longs to spend a few hours in the deep blue sea. If ocean adventures don’t fit the bill for your idea of fun family activities, why not try one of our electric bike tours? Electric bikes have grown exponentially in popularity during the pandemic, and if you’ve been longing to try one out, grab your teens and head into Laguna and spend a few hours exploring our amazing historic village by the sea.

During your tour, we will cruise through scenic Laguna neighborhoods and enjoy ocean views, canyon views and get a first-hand look at some of the unique architecture in our little artists’ colony. We’ll keep you off PCH and on safe routes, and because we use electric bikes, teens and adults of all ages can enjoy this activity. You don’t have to be a seasoned bicyclist to navigate the hills when you use an electric bike.

In addition to our unique electric bike tours, which encompass about 12 miles, we also offer electric bike rentals if you and your family would prefer to explore on your own. Our electric bike tours and bike rentals are suitable for riders that are at least 15 years old, can ride a bike and are at least 4’10” tall.

FAMILY HIKES

We have several guided hiking adventures that can be fun family activities for children, teenagers and adults of all ages. For instance, our Laguna Summit Wilderness Hike begins in our historic downtown at the Festival of Arts. We begin this hike by touring the festival grounds, including the site of the world-famous Pageant of the Masters.

From there, we head up the Water Tank Trail straight up to the ridgeline, which commands stunning views of the Pacific Ocean from Laguna Beach to Newport Beach. As we continue our hike, we will provide you with interesting information about the flora and fauna of our native coastal sage scrub habitat and eventually will ascend to the crest of Bommer Ridge, where your family can enjoy ocean views as well as a fantastic view of Saddleback Mountain and the Cleveland National Forest.

This is just one of several hikes to consider. Our Top of the World Hike takes you through Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park, while our Crystal Cove Hike includes a stop at the cove’s famous restored cottages and, if the tide allows, we also can explore the distinctive ecosystem in this intertidal zone.

Fun family activities can be hard to find these days, especially for parents with older children and teenagers. But, at La Vida Laguna, we can provide you with experiences that you and your family will talk about for years to come. Give us a call and let’s plan some amazing (and Covid-safe) family activities.
